Screen Print

Scope
Collaborate with a partner to create a screen print on the theme of trees.
Approach
My partner and I agreed to create one illustration with more ink and one illustration with less ink so that both images could legibly appear. My partner provided the single-tree image, and I provided the textured forest. We mocked up various color options in Illustrator before creating our final piece, varying our printing techniques.

Experimental Photography

Scope
Explore photographing the wilderness with experimental and impressionistic methods.
Approach
Much of my inspiration came from how I subjectively experienced the light in different areas of the wilderness; light itself effectively creates a vast spectrum of moods. I used post-production editing to exaggerate the particularities of the impressions I captured.

Drawing a Tree

Scope
This exercise encouraged creative exploration of texture, form, and color to represent the basic unit of nature, the tree.
Approach
I used various media to emphasize different aspects of the subjects, such as recursive branch formation or expressionistic color.

Experimental Typography

Scope
Use mixed media itself as a form of "wilderness" to express spontaneity and nature in typography.
Approach
With a developing appreciation for the irregularity of nature, I moved away from attempting perfect forms in my art. This series honors bulky, blemished, and uneven elements, which emulate a characteristic of life.

Juxtaposition Series

Scope
Analyze the photography and field sketches from the past semester and find unexpected juxtapositions among them.
Approach
My sketches relate to my photography in texture and color; the two interact with to each other and create different emotions.

Poster Series

Scope
An open-ended project requiring that students create a cohesive series of at least 3 posters relating to the topic of wilderness.
Approach
This series shares part of my experience studying abroad in Germany during the semester. I developed an excitement for the wilderness I had experienced, demonstrated by the exaggerated bright colors. Inspired by how many people I saw lounging by the lakes and rivers, I reflected on the age-old human experience of sitting by water. I captured and edited all photos used in the collage and drew the figures digitally.
Made using ibis Paint X and Adobe Illustrator.
