Music Industry Summit
The Music Industry Summit (MIS) at Ohio University is a premier event in the Midwest, attracting over 2,000 attendees, including students, faculty, alumni, and industry professionals.
Challenge
My task was to design a fresh and innovative brand treatment for 2026 that communicated the Summit's spirit of collaboration, innovation, and the convergence of thought leaders in the music industry. The brand treatment had to use Ohio University typography and colors.
Design Solution
My design treatment functions as a metaphor where the individual modules represent the sub-communities of diverse attendees and musical genres that all converge to one ecclectic whole at the Music Industry Summit. The style balances diametric interests since on the one hand, Ohio University-affiliated programs favor more conservative, simple styles, while on the other hand, I had to appeal to the audience of industry-oriented students and faculty keen on trends and artistic appeal. Therefore, I drew inspiration from the rising "geo-puzzle" design trend, reprioritized Ohio University's color palette for higher contrast, and opted for its sans-serif typefaces.
The visual language prioritizes clear communication by building around key information and integrating geometric shapes into the flow of the composition, such as the use of triangle to point toward key information.
This brand proposal was elected a top proposal from the semester, chosen by faculty from 72 possible projects.
