Client
VIS Magazine is a student publication at Ohio University produced by upperclass publication designers and commercial photographers. The publication encourages using visual design as a primary method of storytelling instead of subordinating visual elements to supplement written stories.
Challenge
My task was to produce four interior pages along with a corresponding magazine cover by supplying my own research, writing, and page design. As Associate Editor, I also helped art direct a staff portrait, and I formatted its page in the magazine.
Design Solution
Cover
The cover features the director of the school so that all students can recognize him and understand the field-specific jokes within the text.
Interior Pages
I wrote the content for the quiz by using spread sheets to organize a flow chart that had 16 different endpoints, each with a unique combination of 4 different adjective dichotomies (e.g. neat vs. messy or daring vs. reserved). Each set of descriptions was then assigned a typeface and explanation.

Results
All interior pages appeared in the Spring 2026 issue of VIS Magazine.
These pages were also deemed one of the top designs from the semester, chosen out of 72 possible projects and judged anonymously by faculty members.
