01 OF 06
Contour Study

Scope
Draw your shoe from life; only use contour lines.
Approach
I chose an angle that featured the most interesting part of the shoe: the bottom. I intended to portray motion and fluidity with the shoelace.

Made using graphite pencils.

02 OF 06
Cross Contour Study

Scope
Draw a composed scene from life only using cross contour lines.
Approach
I chose the following still life objects since the timeless drawing technique fits well to allude to timeless portrayals of "memento mori" throughout art history.

Made using graphite pencils.

03 OF 06
Charcoal Study

Scope
Draw a composed scene from life using charcoal to focus on value.
Approach
I used this study to practice texture by way of varying charcoal application techniques.

Made using compressed and vine charcoal.

04 OF 06
Self Portrait

Scope
Create a self portrait using foraged materials and ink; students may use a photo reference.
Approach
To take advantage of the diverse textures of natural objects, I focused on rendering my hair with a sense of movement and texture.

Made using foraged twigs, sticks, leaves, and ink.

05 OF 06
Twig & Ink Portrait

Scope
Draw a partner using ink and foraged materials.
Approach
My approach focused on contrast, linework, and expression.

Made using pencil, ink, and foraged materials.

06 OF 06
Portrait Collage

Scope
An open-ended assignment to create a self portrait collage.
Approach
I drew inspiration from bleak Soviet animations and 70s American sci fi aesthetics. I hoped the portrait would provide the viewer with more questions rather than answers.

Made using graphite pencil and Procreate.
