01 OF 04
Self Portrait

Scope
An open-ended assignment to use digital drawing tools to create a self portrait.
Approach
The piece conveys my personal perspective by rendering daydreams in bright color and leaving the outside world nondescript. Spot textures allude to an interest in comics and graphic styles.
02 OF 04
Composition Study

Scope
Create a detailed and rendered painting of a self-captured photo that uses an intentional compositional technique. The painting should remain in monochrome to focus on value.
Approach
The piece uses a cross-shaped compositional technique. By rendering the sky with more interpretive forms and implementing a cool-toned gradient map, I implement an additional overtone of dreaminess or wistfulness.
03 OF 04
Perspective Study

Scope
Use a photo reference to explore depth and perspective, using techniques such as size variation, atmospheric perspective, and perspective tools.
Approach
I referenced a photo of ancient Egyptian ruins to imagine what the scene may look like if it still contained life. To romanticize this historical fiction, I paid attention to lighting, including the use of exaggerated shadows, the rendering of the sky, and the rosy color palette.
04 OF 04
Narrative Comic

Scope
Use at least 6 panels with distinct images to show the beginning and end of a short story or process.
Approach
As part of its humor, the piece implicitly assumes the perspective of the aliens. My rendering style explores cel shading and narrative composition within each frame to effectively tell the story.
