Type Shop

Scope
Design and print a letterform composition using letterpress techniques, emphasizing an understanding of the physical aspects of type composition.
Approach
My design aims for viewers to understand the letterforms not as communication devices but as artforms themselves. I used the letter "O" as a sort of control group to compare across diverse typefaces since it is the most geometrically simple letter. My design emulates a tree, although the ornate O's also suggest a hall of mirrors.

Poster Redesign

Scope
Redesign an existing music poster that focuses on typographic elements. Analyze the original poster's typography to create a more effective and visually appealing typographical design.
Approach
Although the poster I chose uses proper design principles, it ironically makes too much sense, especially considering the original, timeless sound of Talking Heads. To redesign the poster, I took inspiration from the band's colorful album art, and each iteration aims to incorporate some element of senselessness.
The original poster.

Typeface Design

Scope
Use Calligraphr to digitally convert a handcrafted typeface into a font, considering legibility, versatility, and aesthetics.
Approach
I took inspiration from experimental typography, creating a highly decorative font with spontaneous curves, questioning the boundary between communication and art.
