Challenge
As part of a brand proposal for the 2025 Scripps Semester in D.C. program, I was tasked to design a logo suite and implement it across collateral.
Design Solution
I trialed several approaches toward the logomark, wanting to draw on key symbolism such as Ohio University's cherry blossoms or the Capitol dome. The finalized logomark uses a classic approach to reflect Ohio University's professionalism and bring balance to high-energy collateral.
Ideation
I wanted to incorporate meaningful symbolism into the logomark, so I chose key objects uniting Ohio University and Washington, D.C. Cherry blossoms are a symbol of both entities. L'Enfant Plan describes the unique roadway design of Washington, D.C., potentially combined with a broadcasting microphone, which represents Scripps College of Communication. Neoclassical dome architecture also unites Ohio University with Washington, D.C. as a shared symbol.
Consultation
After consulting with my teammate and our design team, I continued with the cherry blossom approach. I drew the main illustration in Procreate. I also came up with a concept of replacing the Washington dome's crowning Statue of Freedom with a microphone, although I discontinued this idea.
Final Logomark
The final logomark utilizes simplicity and graphic boldness to revitalize the preexisting logo.
