Challenge
During our initial discovery session, the client mentioned disappointment with their logo appearing inverted when printed light on dark. They also mentioned concern for scalability. To address these wishes, I provided options for a secondary logo, to be used alongside their favored primary logo.
Design Solution
I provided several iterations of secondary logo designs with a 1-week turnaround between each. Ultimately, I offered a simplified logo that maintains their style while addressing color inversion, scalability, and circular applications.
Designer Consultation
I consulted with my design colleagues and mentor, who suggested that the graphic style of the banner was too removed from the client's hand-crafted style. Therefore, I decided to propose the logo to them as a seal, which could be used sparingly for circular applications—including an actual wax seal. I also provided a simplified secondary logo, shown below.
Client Consultation
The client let me know the seal was well designed but unnecessary, and the linework of the secondary logo didn't quite match their style. I understood what they meant and applied more deliberate cross-hatched linework, providing circular and full versions.
